Sometimes, we can search for all the wrong things in all the wrong places. Yesterday was the second Sunday of our new series #Replenish. This series is centered on refilling our proverbial cups with the Holy Spirit. We’re going deeper with Jesus, experiencing growth and getting revived. From our morning services to Summer Nights, yesterday was our best yet.

Pastor Taylor walked us through Colossians 3:1-17. We encourage you to study it more deeply this week. He also shared a short story about his favorite childhood game, "Hide and Seek." As he described a childhood prank during one game, he also illustrated what happens when we search for things that aren’t even there. He asked us what we are knowingly pursuing and if it is in line with what God has called us to pursue. If we are not careful with what we seek, we can misalign our own will with God’s will.

Pastor Taylor described it as a three-step process:

  1. Get your heart right.
  2. Get your mind right
  3. Put on new clothes (compassion, humility, love).

Colossians 3:2 tells us we should set our hearts and minds on things above, not things that are in the earth. The only way we can ever satisfy the cravings of our soul is through Jesus. Our hearts and minds have to be of His Kingdom. Pastor Taylor encouraged us to seek God's fullness so that He can direct our paths and fulfill our heart’s desires. We find promise in knowing that when we set our minds on Jesus Christ, we let go of our own selfish ambitions.

We all have ambitions. We all have hopes and dreams for the future. But if we don't understand that our life is not found in our talents we, will never overflow. Jesus is our life. In Christ, we have been brought to fullness. We have a relationship with Him and through Him we are adopted. We then are given access. And finally, we have authority.

We can, therefore, put on our new selves and walk in our identity. We can walk in the new clothes God has given us and instructed us to wear in Colossians chapter 3. If we have it backwards, we will never #replenish. How are you replenishing today?

We didn’t know it was possible, but our #HEARTFORHARLEM grew even bigger this summer. In honor of our last #SummerSaturday of the season, we’re holding a Splash Bash! We invite you to beat the heat and join us for a fun afternoon with our entire community.
